First reduce, then compost food waste.
It is estimated that every pound of food thrown away results in 3.8 pounds of greenhouse gas emissions. The average household has approximately 20 pounds a month of food waste. By reducing your food waste to zero, you can avoid almost 1,000 lbs of CO2/year.
Recycle All White and Mixed Paper.
For every pound of paper that is recycled, CO2 emissions are reduced by four pounds. This calculation assumes a yearly per capita paper consumption of 273 pounds and a 100% recycling rate.
Switch to 100% recycled copy paper.
For every ream of paper that you switch to 100 percent post-consumer recycled, you will save 19 pounds of CO2.
